Thanatophilus lapponicus (Herbst, 1793)EditArthropods (Arthropoda)----Insects (Insecta)---Beetles (Coleoptera)---Polyphaga---Staphylinoidea----Carrion beetles (Silphidae)----Thanatophilus-----T. lapponicus
The Northern Carrion beetle, as its name suggests, is a northern species found throughout Canada and northern parts of the United States. This is just one of the spring and early summer carrion feeders that help clear our world of decaying animal carcasses. This species also feeds on fly and other insect larvae if available. This species used to be known as Silpha lapponica.
